Lisa Hindmarsh brings Dana Paul Robinson’s work to vibrant
sonic life – lending her sonorous and silken vocals to DPR’s The
Moon And I in a full-hearted revival of the smooth and sultry Jazz
format that defined popular music for a significant portion of
history! Even-keeled keys and a warm upright bass mingle with
the light drums to set a sturdy foundation of Hindmarsh’s
effortlessly floating voice as The Moon An I waxes poetic,
culminating in a spirited and sublime clarinet feature – instantly
transporting listeners’ imaginations into a hazy, quietly bustling
upscale Jaxx lounge with masterfully immersive songwriting.
..Gorgeous lyrics – made even more beautiful by Lisa’s blend of
ethereal and earthly vocal tones. The instrumental configuration is
stellar, and really communicates an intimacy that draws the
listener in. Great capture of the upright bass, and the drums are
so perfectly understated that the few moments without them feel
absolutely massive. Nice key work, very tasteful with an obvious
attention paid to the vocalist above all else. The biggest feature
her is that clarinet, thought. Wonderful sound, incredible melodic
writing and perfectly performed. Think of Ellas Fitzgerald, Billie
Holiday, Diana Krall.
